This story is about a little boy named Hunter that just can't seem to control himself. He often acts without thinking, causing him to get into trouble. Hunter comes up with the idea to use a remote control to control his behavior just like he controls his favorite videos. Each button has a special meaning that helps him in different ways.
Week 1-
- Read the Hunter story
- Review the story & what they channel changer is & what it is used for
- Review what the channel changer button does. (The channel changer button helps Hunter switch back to the channel he is supposed to be on, i.e I am thinking about recess in math class so I must change the channel back to math.)
- Read the part of the Hunter story where the pause button is used
- Play the pause game (an activity found in the book where students must say pause if they shouldn't do the behavior in school)
- Naming the colors activity (based off the Stroop Effect)
- Stand like statues game
- Read the part of the Hunter story where the fast forward button is used
- Watch the scene from the Lion King where Simba & Nala enter the Elephant Graveyard pausing the clip to allow students to point out what dangerous things could happen that Simba & Nala could avoid by using their fast forward button
- Allow kids to give their own example of times they did or did not use their fast forward button & the consequences following the behavior
- Read the story where the rewind button is used
- Go over "should" statements vs. "next time" statements
- Change "should" statements to "next time" statements
- Use puppets to act our scenarios with behavior mistakes made & then let the kids rewind the show to correct the mistakes.
- Read the story where the slow motion button is used
- Talk about times when it is hard to slow down- angry, excited

- Play feelings charades
- Read the story where the coach button is used
- Write & or draw SMART goals for the rest of the school year
- Read the part of the story where the Zapper Button is used
- Play the 'zap that thought' game
- Read the story where the way to go button is used
- Read letters of affirmation (provided by parents or teachers) for each of the children
- Review all the buttons on the channel changer & allow students to take home their channel changer & Hunter story
